1. Introduction
Swolemates ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Swolemates mobile application and website at swolemates.co (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information. Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not use the Service.
2. Information we collect
Website signups (swolemates.co)
When you sign up for launch updates on our website, we collect:
- Your email address
- The date and time of your signup
- Your explicit consent to receive launch communications
We use this information solely to notify you about Swolemates updates and send occasional program announcements. We will never sell or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us at support@swolemates.co.
Account information
- Name and display name
- Email address
- Profile photo and avatar selections (if provided)
- Date of birth (to verify age eligibility)
- Authentication identifier from Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In (we do not receive or store your password)
Workout and activity data
- Workout routines and exercise logs
- Check-in history, streaks, points, and badges
- Milestone selfies and workout photos you choose to upload
Health data (HealthKit)
With your permission, Swolemates reads workout data from Apple Health to automatically log your activity and maintain your streak, and may write workout summaries back to Apple Health so your fitness data stays in one place.
We do not use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing. We do not sell or disclose HealthKit data to third parties. HealthKit data is never used for any purpose other than providing the features you enable in the app, consistent with Apple's HealthKit guidelines. HealthKit permissions can be revoked at any time from the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security > Health.
Camera and photo library
With your permission, Swolemates can access your camera to capture milestone selfies and your photo library to attach workout photos to your check-ins. Photos are uploaded only when you explicitly choose to share them. You can revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
Contacts
With your permission, Swolemates can access your device contacts to help you find friends who are already on the app. Contact data is hashed on-device before any server lookup and is not stored after the match is performed. You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Social data
- Follow relationships and crew membership
- Reactions, nudges, and comments on the social feed
- Content you post to the feed (exercise logs, photos, captions)
Push notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications for workout reminders, streak alerts, and social interactions (follows, nudges, reactions). To deliver pushes, we store an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings or in the app.
Device and usage data
- Device type, operating system, and app version
- App usage analytics (screens viewed, feature usage)
- Crash reports and performance data
- IP address and general location (country/region level)
Purchase and subscription data
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive a transaction identifier and subscription status from Apple so we can unlock paid features. We do not receive or store your payment method, credit card, or billing address.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
- Create and manage your account
- Connect you with friends and crew members
- Track your workout progress, streaks, and achievements
- Display activity in the social feed
- Send notifications (workout reminders, social updates)
- Analyze usage to improve our features
- Unlock paid features based on your Apple subscription status
- Respond to customer support requests
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Analytics
We use analytics tools to understand how users interact with the Service. This helps us improve features and user experience. Analytics data is collected in aggregate and is not used to identify individual users for advertising purposes. We do not use HealthKit data for analytics.
5. Data sharing and service providers
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the Service and only as needed for them to perform their services:
- Supabase — account, social, and workout data storage (database, authentication, file storage)
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, Apple Push Notification service, App Store subscription processing, HealthKit (data stays on your device; we only access what you authorize)
- Google — Google Sign-In authentication (only if you choose to sign in with Google)
- Vercel — website hosting for swolemates.co
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the safety of our users or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
6. Data retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes. You can request account deletion from within the app or by contacting us at support@swolemates.co.
7. Data security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
8. Children's privacy
Swolemates is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@swolemates.co.
9. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
